It is Odoo's Sales, Inventory, Manufacturing, Quality, Project and Accounting apps configured for project-based building product sales. The bigger picture
A £68bn industry, mostly made in the UK.
Demand is project-led, documentation demands are rising and contractors expect precise delivery.
Sound familiar?
The problems we hear from building products firms.
Quotes go out in Word, prices live in spreadsheets and deliveries are planned on a whiteboard.
Every customer has a different price
Merchant trade terms, contractor project prices and housebuilder framework rates live in spreadsheets, so reps quote the wrong price and margin leaks on every job.
Project quotes take days
Quotes built from take-offs in Excel are slow to produce, hard to revise when the spec changes and impossible to track against the eventual order.
Delivery chaos on site
Phased call-offs, crane or tail-lift requirements and site access windows sit in emails, leading to failed deliveries and wasted haulage.
Product paperwork chasing
Contractors ask for declarations of performance, datasheets and fire test evidence, and staff hunt through shared drives to find the right version.
Units that do not match
Products bought by the tonne or pallet but sold per m2, per length or per pack cause stock errors and margin confusion.
No single view of stock and lead times
Stock across yards, branches and direct-from-mill orders is not visible in one place, so sales promise dates operations cannot keep.
Each project order touches sales, stock, transport and accounts. Separate systems mean dropped balls.
Follow one project
Follow one project order from enquiry to invoice.
Pick a stage and switch between how it runs today and how it runs in Odoo.
Enquiry and specification
Enquiries arrive by phone and email and are logged inconsistently, with no record of which project or contractor they relate to.

2-minute readiness check
Is your building products business outgrowing its systems?
Five quick questions for an honest view of whether Odoo would pay back.
- Are project quotes built in Word or Excel and chased by memory?
- Do merchant and contractor prices live in separate spreadsheets?
- Are site deliveries planned on a whiteboard or by phone?
- Would finding the DoP for a delivered batch take more than an hour?
- Do deposits and stage payments get missed or invoiced late?

Online signature and deposit
Faster order confirmation with a clear audit trail of what was agreed.
Units of measure and packs
Buy by the pallet or tonne, sell per m2, length or pack, with stock kept accurate.
Batch traceability
Trace which production batch went to which customer and site if a product issue arises.
Dropship direct to site
Bulky items ship direct from the mill or factory without double handling.
Delivery scheduling
Group deliveries by route or vehicle so the yard loads the right lorry first time.
Deposits and stage invoicing
Bill large project orders in stages that match contractor payment terms.
Compliance
Product documentation that follows every batch.
Keep declarations, markings and records linked to products and deliveries.
Products covered by a designated standard must have a Declaration of Performance and carry UKCA or CE marking before they are placed on the GB market; GB guidance confirms CE marking continues to be accepted.
Odoo does not certify products, but DoPs, test reports and marking evidence can be stored against each product and sent automatically with quotes and orders.
Manufacturers must hold technical documentation and a declaration supporting UKCA marking.
Product records hold the current document versions, and lot tracking links each batch shipped to the customer and site.
For higher-risk buildings, accountable persons must keep a digital golden thread of building information through design, construction and occupation.
Suppliers can respond quickly to contractor information requests because product documents and batch delivery records are held in one system.
VAT-registered UK businesses must keep digital records and submit VAT returns using compatible software.
Odoo's UK fiscal localisation supports submitting VAT returns to HMRC under MTD.

FAQs
Questions building products firms ask us
Straight answers to the questions building products suppliers ask us most. Something else on your mind? Ask a consultant.
Can Odoo manage different prices for merchants, contractors and housebuilders?
Yes. Odoo pricelists can be set per customer or customer group, with quantity breaks and date ranges, so each account sees its agreed price automatically on every quote and order.
Can we buy by the pallet and sell per square metre or per pack?
Yes. Odoo supports multiple units of measure and packagings on the same product, converting between purchase, stock and sales units so stock stays accurate.
Does Odoo help with UKCA, CE and declarations of performance?
Odoo does not certify products, that remains your responsibility under the Construction Products Regulation. What it does is keep your DoPs, datasheets and test evidence on each product and send them with quotes, so contractors get the right version first time.
Can we trace which batch went to which site?
Yes. With lot tracking switched on, Odoo records the lot on receipts, production and deliveries, and the traceability report shows every customer and delivery a batch went to.
Can Odoo handle direct-to-site deliveries from our suppliers?
Yes. Odoo's dropshipping route creates a purchase order to the supplier when the sales order is confirmed, and the goods go straight to the customer's site without passing through your warehouse.
Why work with Thoughtlogik?

How much does Odoo cost in the UK?

At October 2026, Odoo's UK list prices on annual billing are £22 per user per month for Standard and £41 for Custom (which adds Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting, Studio and multi-company), with a first-year discount to £18 and £32.
