In one sentence
What is Odoo ERP for precision engineering?
It is Odoo's Manufacturing, Quality, PLM, Maintenance, Inventory and Accounting apps configured for make-to-order engineering. Every enquiry becomes a costed quote, every order a planned job with routings and work centres, and every finished part carries its material certs and inspection results. Thoughtlogik designs, configures and supports it for UK engineering SMEs.

The bigger picture
Manufacturing powers the UK. Most of it runs on SMEs.
Engineering SMEs win on quality and lead time. Disconnected systems quietly erode both.
Sound familiar?
The problems we hear from engineering firms every week.
None of these are about effort. They are what happens when quotes, the shop floor and accounts live in different places.
Quotes built on guesswork
Estimators price cycle times, material and outside processes in spreadsheets, so nobody knows if a job made money until weeks after it shipped.
No live view of the shop floor
Paper job cards and whiteboards mean the office has to walk the floor to know which job is on which machine and what is late.
Traceability held together by paper
Material certs, heat numbers and inspection records sit in folders, so pulling a full trace pack for an AS9100 or EXC2 customer takes hours.
Subcontract operations disappear
Parts sent out for plating, anodising, heat treatment or galvanising drop off the radar, and lead times slip without warning.
Revision control risk
Operators can machine to an out-of-date drawing because drawing revisions and routings are not controlled in one place.
Unplanned machine downtime
Preventive maintenance lives in a diary, so CNC breakdowns hit capacity and delivery promises with no warning.
If two or more of these ring true, your systems are now costing you margin.
Follow one job
Follow one job from drawing to delivery.
Pick a stage and switch between how it runs today and how it runs in Odoo.
Enquiry and quote
Drawings arrive by email and the estimator rebuilds costs in Excel from memory of similar jobs.
Pick a stage, or switch between Today and With Odoo.
2-minute readiness check
Has your engineering business outgrown its systems?
Answer five quick questions. We will tell you honestly whether an ERP would pay back.
- Do you only know a job's real margin weeks after it ships, if at all?
- Does someone walk the floor to find out where a job is?
- Would a full trace pack for one batch take more than an hour?
- Do parts at platers or heat treaters regularly delay deliveries?
- Are quotes priced in spreadsheets that only one person understands?
One system
One system in place of the spreadsheets, job cards and bolt-ons.
Today the same job is typed into four or five places. In Odoo it is entered once and flows from quote to invoice.
Odoo, set up for precision engineers
Quote, plan, make, inspect, ship and invoice in one database, with real job cost on every order.
The solution
Everything a make-to-order engineering firm needs.
Standard Odoo apps, configured by Thoughtlogik around how your shop really works.
Work centres with real hourly costs
Plan machines and cells realistically and cost each operation consistently.
Routings for multi-step jobs
Model multi-step jobs such as saw, turn, mill, deburr and inspect in the right sequence.
Real job costing on every order
See real job cost against expected cost on every order.
Shop Floor tablets for operators
Live progress for the office and no more paper job cards.
Subcontract operations under control
Keep control of parts at platers, heat treaters and galvanisers.
In-process inspection with tolerances
Inspection is prompted at the right operation and out-of-tolerance results are flagged.
Lot and serial traceability
Trace material from receipt to the delivered part in a few clicks.
Controlled drawing revisions
Approve revisions before they reach the shop floor and keep a history of every change.
Preventive maintenance
Schedule servicing around production and cut unplanned downtime.
Compliance
Audit-ready quality records, without the paperwork.
Odoo does not certify you, but it keeps the evidence your auditors and customers ask for in one place.
Fabricated structural steelwork for GB sites must be UKCA or CE marked under a certified factory production control system, with batch traceability at EXC2.
Lot tracking, receipt quality checks and the traceability report link material certificates and inspection records to each fabricated batch, supporting your FPC records.
Requires documented control of processes, nonconformities and corrective actions.
Quality control points, quality alerts, controlled BoM revisions and work instructions give an auditable record in one system.
Builds on ISO 9001 with stricter requirements for configuration management, traceability and product safety.
Serial and lot traceability, PLM engineering change orders and recorded inspection results support configuration control and trace packs.
VAT-registered UK businesses must keep digital records and file VAT returns with compatible software.
Odoo's UK localisation submits VAT returns to HMRC.
Integrations
Connected to the tools you already use.
Carriers, banks, HMRC and your shop floor hardware, all talking to one system.

FAQs
Questions engineering firms ask us
Straight answers to the questions precision engineers ask us most. Something else on your mind? Ask a consultant.
Can Odoo handle make-to-order job shop work?
Yes. A confirmed sales order can create its own manufacturing order, and work orders are planned against work centre capacity. We set up routings so each operation, from saw cutting to final inspection, is costed and tracked.
How does Odoo help with BS EN 1090 traceability?
Lots can be recorded from the moment material is received, with certificates and inspection results attached. The traceability report then shows which material went into which delivered batch, which supports your factory production control records. Odoo is a tool for this, it does not replace your certification body.
Can we track parts sent out for plating or heat treatment?
Yes. Odoo's subcontracting with resupply sends your parts to the subcontractor, keeps them visible at the subcontractor's location and books them back in against a purchase order, so outside lead times are planned rather than chased.
Will operators need to use a computer?
No. The Shop Floor app runs on a tablet next to the machine. Operators start and finish work orders, see instructions and drawings, and record quality checks with a few taps.
Can we see real job costs?
Each manufacturing order shows expected against real cost for components and operation time. Combined with analytic accounting, you can see margin by job, customer or product line.
We are on Sage 200 and spreadsheets. How hard is the move?
We migrate customers, suppliers, products, open orders and opening balances, and rebuild BoMs and routings from your existing data. Our UK and India team works in phases so the shop floor keeps running throughout.
How much does Odoo cost in the UK?
Odoo licences are priced per user. At October 2026, Odoo's UK list prices on annual billing are £22 per user per month for Standard and £41 for Custom (which adds Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting, Studio and multi-company), with a first-year discount to £18 and £32. One App Free covers a single app with unlimited users. Implementation is scoped separately after a free process review, so you know the full cost before you commit.
