Sound familiar?

The problems we hear from lighting and electrical firms.

Ranges grow, specifications change and the spreadsheets that held it together stop coping.

Most of these problems come from one cause: product, stock and customer data living in different systems.

  1. 01

    Variant explosion

One luminaire can come in several wattages, colour temperatures, beam angles, finishes and drivers, and spreadsheets cannot keep the codes, BoMs and prices in step.

  2. 02

    WEEE data by hand

Tonnage placed on the market by category is pieced together from sales exports and product weights every quarter.

  3. 03

    Compliance files scattered

Declarations of conformity, test reports and energy label data sit in shared drives, yet RoHS requires technical documentation to be kept for 10 years.

  4. 04

    Warranty claims without history

When a driver fails in year three, nobody can quickly see which batch, which components and which customer order it came from.

  5. 05

    Kitting and assembly errors

Imported bodies, LED boards, drivers and accessories are assembled or kitted on the bench with no record of what went into each unit.

  6. 06

    Wholesaler ordering by email

Wholesalers and contractors email for stock, prices and order status, tying up the sales office.

2-minute readiness check

Is your lighting business outgrowing its systems?

Five quick questions. We will give you an honest view of whether Odoo would pay back.

  • Do you maintain separate product codes and BoMs for every colour, wattage or finish?
  • Do drivers or LED boards run out before anyone notices?
  • Would finding which customers bought a faulty batch take more than an hour?
  • Is WEEE or RoHS data pulled together by hand from spreadsheets?
  • Are warranty claims tracked in email rather than against serial numbers?

Compliance

Odoo will not file returns for you, but it holds the product and sales data that WEEE, RoHS and marking obligations depend on.

RequirementWhat it meansHow Odoo helps
01WEEE Regulations 2013 (producer responsibility)

UK producers and importers of EEE must register, report EEE placed on the market by category and finance WEEE, joining a compliance scheme at 5 tonnes or more a year, and mark products with the crossed-out wheeled bin.

Odoo has no built-in WEEE return, but with product weights and a WEEE category on each product, sales reporting gives units and weight placed on the market per period for your scheme.

02RoHS Regulations 2012 (as amended)

Manufacturers must hold technical documentation and a declaration of conformity for 10 years, mark products with a type, batch or serial number, and identify who supplied them and whom they supplied for 10 years.

Lot and serial traceability links suppliers, batches and customers, and documents can be attached to product records.

03UKCA and CE marking

Products placed on the GB market need UKCA marking, or CE marking where the UK continues to recognise it, backed by conformity assessment and documentation.

Keep declarations and test reports with each product and use PLM change orders so design changes trigger a compliance review.

04Ecodesign and energy labelling for lighting

GB rules set minimum efficiency for light sources and require energy labels on the A to G scale.

Energy class and product information can be held as product attributes and shown on quotes and the B2B shop.

FAQs

Questions lighting and electrical firms ask us

Straight answers to the questions lighting and electrical manufacturers ask us most. Something else on your mind? Ask a consultant.

Can Odoo manage thousands of lighting variants?

Yes. Attributes such as wattage, colour temperature, beam angle and finish generate variants from one product template, and a single BoM can apply different components to each variant. This keeps codes, costs and prices consistent.

Does Odoo produce our WEEE return?

Not as a ready-made return. We set up a WEEE category and weight on each product so Odoo reports units and tonnage placed on the market per period, which you then pass to your compliance scheme or regulator.

How does Odoo help with RoHS and UKCA paperwork?

Declarations of conformity and test reports can be stored against each product, and lot or serial tracking shows who supplied each batch and which customers received it. RoHS requires this supplier and customer trail to be available for 10 years.

Can we handle warranty returns properly?

Yes. A Helpdesk ticket can trigger a return, refund, replacement or repair order. With serial or lot tracking you see the original order and components, which helps spot recurring failures.

Can our wholesalers order online?

Odoo eCommerce supports B2B accounts with customer-specific pricelists, so trade customers see their own prices, place orders, and view orders and invoices in their portal.

We import components and assemble in the UK. Does Odoo fit?

Yes. Purchase handles overseas suppliers in foreign currency with lead times, Manufacturing handles assembly with BoMs, and kits let you sell bundles while tracking each part. It is a common setup for own-brand lighting businesses.

How much does Odoo cost in the UK?

Odoo licences are priced per user. At October 2026, Odoo's UK list prices on annual billing are £22 per user per month for Standard and £41 for Custom (which adds Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting, Studio and multi-company), with a first-year discount to £18 and £32. One App Free covers a single app with unlimited users. Implementation is scoped separately after a free process review, so you know the full cost before you commit.
