Two different starting points
Zoho vs Odoo: how the two platforms are built
Odoo started as an ERP. Its core is one database and one application where CRM, sales, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, accounting, eCommerce and HR are modules that share the same records. When a sales order is confirmed, stock is reserved, a manufacturing order can be created and the invoice posts to the ledger without any integration in between.
Zoho started with CRM and grew into a suite of separate SaaS apps: Zoho CRM, Books, Inventory, Desk, Projects, People, Analytics, Creator and many more. Each app is a product in its own right, and they connect through native integrations and a shared identity. Zoho One bundles most of them under one licence.
Neither approach is better in the abstract. One ERP database suits businesses where operations and finance are tightly coupled; a suite of specialist apps suits businesses built around the customer relationship.

When Odoo wins
Choose Odoo when operations and stock drive the business
Odoo is the stronger choice when the hard problems sit in the warehouse, on the shop floor or in the ledger rather than in the sales pipeline.
Manufacturing
Bills of materials, work centres, routings, subcontracting, quality checks and maintenance in the same system as sales and accounts. See manufacturing.
Inventory-heavy trading
Multi-warehouse, lots and serial numbers, expiry dates, putaway rules, drop-shipping and landed costs, all posting straight to stock valuation.
ERP depth in one database
Purchasing, stock, manufacturing and finance share records, so there is no integration to maintain between order, stock and invoice.
Open source and hosting choice
Community edition is open source, and Enterprise can run on Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own servers. Useful for firms with strict hosting or code ownership requirements.

Odoo vs Zoho pricing: how the models differ
The headline numbers are close, so the model matters more than the price. Figures are as listed on vendor sites in September 2026 (GBP, ex VAT, annual billing); check each vendor for current pricing.
Odoo: one price per user for every app
Odoo offers One App Free (a single app, unlimited users), Standard at £18 per user/month for the first year (list £22) and Custom at £32 for the first year (list £41). Custom is needed for Odoo Studio, multi-company, the external API, Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting, so most mid-sized or multi-entity businesses land on Custom. Hosting is included on Odoo Online; Odoo.sh hosting is billed separately.
Zoho: per app, or everything with Zoho One
Zoho sells each app separately, for example Zoho CRM from £12 to £42 per user/month and Zoho Books from free to £165 per organisation/month. Zoho One costs £37 per employee/month if you license every employee, or £80 per user/month on flexible user pricing.
What this means in practice
- A 40-person firm where only 10 people use the system may pay less for Zoho CRM plus Books than for Zoho One or Odoo Custom.
- A business where most staff touch stock, production or orders often gets better value from Odoo's single per-user price.
- Implementation cost usually outweighs licences in year one. It depends on scope, integrations and data migration, and we fix it after a free scoping call.
Hosting and customisation
Where your data lives and how far you can change it
Zoho is cloud only. UK customers are normally set up in Zoho's EU data centre, and Zoho handles infrastructure, backups and updates. You cannot self-host, and deep code-level changes are not possible, but Deluge scripting and Zoho Creator cover most bespoke needs without touching the core product.
Odoo gives you three options: Odoo Online (SaaS, fastest, limited to standard apps and Studio), Odoo.sh (a managed platform that runs custom Python modules), or on-premise. Custom modules give almost unlimited flexibility, but every customisation must be carried through each Odoo version upgrade. We plan for that from day one; see Odoo upgrades.
UK accounting
Zoho Books vs Odoo Accounting for UK finance teams
Both handle UK VAT and Making Tax Digital. Zoho Books is HMRC recognised for MTD for VAT and is a natural fit for service businesses, with bank feeds, multi-currency and a clean link to Zoho CRM and Zoho Inventory.
Odoo Accounting sits inside the ERP, so stock valuation, cost of goods sold and landed costs post automatically from operations. That matters for manufacturers and distributors. For example, we implemented Odoo for a UK seafood processor and distributor running two legal entities with different costing methods (one standard with landed cost, one average), with multi-company accounting and traceability.

Choose Odoo if
- You manufacture, assemble, or hold significant stock across locations.
- Finance needs stock valuation and COGS to post directly from operations.
- You run several legal entities that trade with each other.
- Open source, code ownership or self-hosting matters to you.
Choose Zoho if
- Sales, account management and service are the core of the business.
- You want CRM, helpdesk, projects, HR and recruitment on one vendor with minimal admin.
- Only part of your workforce needs the system, so per-app licensing is cheaper.
- You want to build custom apps quickly on Zoho Creator.
Consider both
Some clients run Zoho CRM for sales and Odoo for operations and finance, connected by an integration. It adds a moving part, so we only recommend it when each platform is clearly the best at its half of the job.
