Use-case matrix
Zoho vs Odoo by use case
Our assessment across nine common business models, with the deciding reason for each.
Both platforms can technically do most things. The question is which one does your core processes natively, with the least custom work. We rate each as Strong (native, deep and widely used), Good (native and capable, less depth), Partial (possible with add-ons or extra apps) or Limited (needs custom build). This is practitioner judgement from projects on both platforms, not vendor data.
Use-case fit: Zoho vs Odoo
Thoughtlogik assessment, October 2026
| Use case | Zoho | Odoo | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales-led B2B | ✓ Strong | Good | Zoho CRM's depth: Blueprint processes, Zia AI, journey orchestration and an 800+ extension Marketplace. Odoo CRM is simpler but flows straight into quotes and invoices. |
| Service-led | ✓ Strong | Good | Zoho Desk (125K+ businesses) offers multichannel ticketing, SLAs and escalations. Odoo Helpdesk is capable and shares data with sales and invoicing. |
| Manufacturing | Limited | ✓ Strong | Odoo has native MRP: bills of materials, work orders, MPS, PLM, Quality and Maintenance. Zoho has no native MRP module, so production needs Creator or third-party tools. |
| Wholesale and distribution | Good | ✓ Strong | Zoho Inventory covers simpler multi-warehouse stock. Odoo adds routes, putaway rules, FEFO, barcode, landed costs and valuation linked to accounting. |
| Retail and eCommerce | Partial | ✓ Strong | Odoo runs point of sale, website shop, stock and accounting in one database. Zoho Commerce suits simpler online stores. |
| Professional services | ✓ Strong | Good | Zoho CRM, Projects, Books and People suit consultancies and agencies. Odoo Project, Timesheets and Planning work well where billing is time-based. |
| Field service | ✓ Strong | Good | Zoho FSM pairs with Zoho CRM for quotes, jobs and engineer apps. Odoo Field Service links jobs to stock, timesheets and invoicing. |
| HR | ✓ Strong | Good | Zoho People (50K+ businesses) adds performance and learning. Odoo covers employees, time off, appraisals and recruitment. Neither offers native UK payroll. |
| Finance and accounting | Good | ✓ Strong | Zoho Books suits SMEs with MTD VAT filing. Odoo Accounting adds stock valuation, multi-company and UK CIS. Both are on HMRC's MTD for VAT software list. |

Mixed businesses are common. A distributor with a strong field sales team, or a manufacturer with a busy service desk, may fit either. In those cases, choose the platform that runs your most complex process natively, and integrate or simplify the rest. For a feature-by-feature head-to-head, read our Odoo vs Zoho comparison.
Licence and hosting
How do the Zoho and Odoo licence and hosting models differ?
This is often the deciding factor for IT and finance teams.
Zoho is a proprietary, SaaS-only suite. You subscribe per user (or per organisation for Zoho Books), and Zoho hosts everything. UK customers are hosted in Zoho's EU data centres in Amsterdam and Dublin, and Zoho has announced a UK data centre. Odoo is open-core. The Community edition is open source under LGPLv3. Enterprise adds apps and services under the Odoo Enterprise Edition licence, and can run on Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own servers.

Customisation
How do you customise Zoho vs Odoo?
Both reward a configure-first approach. The tools for going further are very different.
Zoho customises through configuration (modules, fields, layouts, Blueprint and workflows), Deluge scripting and Zoho Creator, its low-code platform, on which 7M+ apps have been built. Creator apps share data with CRM and the rest of the suite, which makes it a natural way to fill gaps without leaving Zoho.
Odoo offers Studio for no-code changes to fields, views, reports, automation and approvals, but only on the Custom plan. Deeper changes are Python and XML modules, which you own and maintain. Odoo's subscription does not cover maintenance of custom code, so every module adds upgrade effort.

| Layer | Zoho | Odoo |
|---|---|---|
| Configuration | Modules, fields, layouts, Blueprint, workflows | Settings, fields and views in each app |

| Marketplace | Zoho Marketplace, 2,000+ extensions | Odoo App Store, 40k+ community apps |
| Upgrade impact | Handled by Zoho for standard features | Custom code is not maintained under the Odoo subscription |

UK pricing
Zoho vs Odoo pricing in the UK
Licence prices per user per month, billed annually, ex VAT. Implementation is separate on both platforms.
The two vendors price differently, so like-for-like comparison needs care. Zoho sells apps individually or as Zoho One, either for all employees or for flexible named users. Odoo sells one price for all apps, with a cheaper Standard plan limited to Odoo Online and a Custom plan that adds Studio, multi-company, the external API and hosting choice. Odoo also offers a Light User licence for staff who only need apps such as time off, expenses, point of sale or field service.

FAQs
Zoho vs Odoo: common questions
Cannot see your question? Our UK consultants are happy to talk it through.
Is Zoho or Odoo better?
Neither is better overall. Zoho is stronger for customer-facing work such as sales, service, marketing and HR, on a fully hosted SaaS model. Odoo is stronger for operations such as inventory, manufacturing, point of sale and accounting in one database, with a choice of hosting. The right choice depends on your core processes.
Is Odoo cheaper than Zoho?
On list prices, Odoo Standard (£18 per user per month for the first 12 months, then £22) costs less than Zoho One for flexible users (£80). Zoho One All Employee (£37) is competitive when everyone needs it. Single Zoho apps can be cheaper still. Compare total cost, including implementation and add-ons, not just licences.
Is Odoo open source?
Partly. Odoo is open-core. Odoo Community is open source under the LGPLv3 licence. Odoo Enterprise adds further apps, hosting and services under the proprietary Odoo Enterprise Edition licence. Zoho, by contrast, is proprietary software offered only as SaaS, so you cannot view or modify its source code.
Can Zoho handle manufacturing?
Zoho has no native manufacturing (MRP) module. Simple assembly can be handled in Zoho Inventory, and more complex production is usually built in Zoho Creator or integrated from a third-party tool. If manufacturing is your core process, Odoo's native MRP, PLM and Quality apps are usually the stronger fit.
Can I self-host Zoho or Odoo?
Zoho is offered only as cloud SaaS, hosted in Zoho's own data centres, with EU hosting for UK customers. Odoo can run on Odoo Online, on Odoo.sh or on your own servers. Self-hosting Odoo Enterprise requires the Custom plan; Odoo Community can be self-hosted freely.
Do Zoho and Odoo support UK payroll and MTD?
Both are on HMRC's Making Tax Digital for VAT software list. Neither offers native UK payroll: Zoho Payroll is not available in the UK, and Odoo has no UK payroll localisation. UK businesses keep a separate HMRC-recognised payroll or, with Odoo, can use the Employment Hero connector.
Can we use Zoho and Odoo together?
Yes, some businesses do, for example Zoho CRM and Desk for customer teams with Odoo for stock and accounting. It works, but you then own an integration and two vendors. We usually recommend one platform where it covers your core processes well, and integration only where it clearly adds value.
