Odoo manufacturing (MRP) UK

Odoo manufacturing UK: plan, make and know your margin.

Odoo MRP brings bills of materials, routings, planning, the shop floor, quality, maintenance and costing into the same database as sales, stock and finance. We implement it for UK manufacturers in phases, so production plans are realistic and every job's real cost is visible.

What is Odoo Manufacturing?

Odoo Manufacturing (MRP) is Odoo's app for planning and running production. It manages multi-level bills of materials, routings and work centres, the master production schedule, manufacturing and work orders, subcontracting and the shop floor, and links to Quality, Maintenance and PLM, so stock, costs and accounts update as you make.

01Who it is for
UK manufacturers, from job shops to batch producers, outgrowing spreadsheets or a legacy MRP
02What we deliver
BoMs, routings, planning, shop floor, quality and costing configured, data migrated and teams trained
03Typical timeline
3 to 5 months for manufacturing projects, often phased with finance and sales first

UK manufacturing in numbers

A £220bn sector that needs more output per person.

Rising labour and input costs and a tight skills market mean UK manufacturers must get more from every machine and every hour. Connected planning and costing is where that starts.

Sound familiar?

Why production feels harder than it should.

Most manufacturers we speak to are not short of effort. They are short of one reliable picture of demand, capacity, stock and cost.

An MRP system pays back when planners, operators and finance all work from the same live data.

01

Planning on a whiteboard

Capacity lives in the planner's head, so promised dates slip when a machine or person is unavailable.

→ Fix: work centres, capacity and Gantt planning in Odoo

02

BoMs in spreadsheets

Several versions of the truth, with engineering changes that never reach the shop floor.

→ Fix: versioned BoMs with PLM engineering change orders

03

Job costs known too late

Actual labour, machine time and material are compared with the quote weeks after the job ships, if at all.

→ Fix: planned versus actual cost on every manufacturing order

04

Paper travellers and retyping

Operators fill in paper, data is retyped and nobody sees progress until the end of the shift.

→ Fix: the Odoo Shop Floor app on tablets at each work centre

05

Traceability by hand

Finding which lot went into which customer order takes hours before an audit or recall.

→ Fix: lot and serial tracking from goods in to delivery

06

Breakdowns that wreck the plan

Maintenance is reactive, so unplanned downtime knocks every promise date.

→ Fix: preventive maintenance linked to equipment and work centres

How Odoo runs your factory

From engineering to costing, one connected flow.

We configure Odoo Manufacturing around how you really make things. Here is how the main stages look once it is live.

BoMs and PLM

One version of every bill of materials

PLMManufacturing

Multi-level BoMs, variants and kits define what you make and how. Engineering change orders in PLM move changes through review and approval, so the shop floor always builds the current version.

  • Multi-level, variant and kit BoMs
  • Operations and routings on the BoM
  • By-products and scrap
  • Engineering change orders with approvals
  • Drawings and instructions attached

One approved BoM per product, always current on the shop floor.

Quality and maintenance

QualityMaintenance

Quality control points trigger checks at receipt, during operations or before delivery, and failures raise quality alerts. Maintenance plans keep equipment running and block planned downtime in the schedule.

What we set up

Everything a well-run Odoo factory needs.

Every project is scoped to how you make things, but these are the building blocks we configure most often.

Bills of materials

Multi-level, variant and kit BoMs, by-products and one-, two- or three-step manufacturing.

Routings and work centres

Operations on the BoM, work centre capacity, time off and work order dependencies.

Master production schedule

Plan what to make and buy each week from forecasts, orders and safety stock.

Shop Floor app

Tablet screens for operators: instructions, timers, quality checks and progress.

Subcontracting

Basic, resupply and dropship-to-subcontractor flows, with cost on the finished item.

Quality control

Control points, pass or fail, measurement and photo checks, and quality alerts.

Maintenance and OEE

Preventive and corrective maintenance, equipment history and OEE reporting.

PLM and traceability

FAQs

Odoo manufacturing: your questions answered.

Cannot see your question? Our UK consultants are happy to talk it through.

Is Odoo good for UK manufacturers?

Odoo Manufacturing suits discrete and batch manufacturers that want production, stock, purchasing, quality and finance in one system, from job shops to repetitive producers. It handles multi-level BoMs, routings, the master production schedule, subcontracting and lot or serial traceability. We test your specific processes in a fit-gap before you commit.

How long does an Odoo manufacturing implementation take?

Manufacturing projects typically take 3 to 5 months with us, depending on product complexity, data quality and the number of sites and work centres. A UK partner benchmark puts CRM, sales, accounting, inventory and manufacturing at around 14 to 20 weeks. We often go live with finance and sales first, then production.

Which costing methods does Odoo support?

Odoo supports standard price, average cost (AVCO) and FIFO, with manual or automated (perpetual) stock valuation. Manufacturing orders capture component, labour and work centre costs, so you can compare planned and actual cost. We agree the method with your finance team before go-live.

Does Odoo support make to order and make to stock?

Yes. Reordering rules keep stock items between minimum and maximum levels, while the replenish on order (make to order) route creates a manufacturing order from a customer's sales order. Both can run side by side, and the master production schedule plans longer-term demand.

Can operators use Odoo on the shop floor?

Yes. The Shop Floor app gives operators a tablet view of their work centre's work orders, with instructions, timers, quality checks and progress recording. Staff who only use limited apps may qualify for the £6.90 Light User licence. Odoo lists the eligible apps and we check eligibility for your team.

How does Odoo handle traceability and quality?

Lot and serial numbers can be tracked from goods receipt through manufacturing to delivery, so you can trace forwards and backwards for audits or recalls. The Quality app adds control points, pass or fail, measurement and photo checks, and quality alerts that support an ISO 9001 quality system.

Can Odoo manage subcontracting such as plating or heat treatment?

Yes. Odoo supports subcontracting through subcontract BoMs, including resupplying the subcontractor with components and dropshipping to them, with the cost included in the finished item. Where a subcontracted step sits in the middle of a routing, we design the flow during the fit-gap.

Which Odoo plan do manufacturers need?

Quality, PLM and the Shop Floor app are Odoo Enterprise apps, so both Standard and Custom plans include them. Standard runs on Odoo Online only. Choose Custom if you need multi-company, Studio, the external API for machine or system integrations, or custom modules on Odoo.sh or on-premise.
