Sage 200 and Sage 50 replacement
Replace Sage with Odoo: one system for the whole business.
When Sage handles the accounts but sales, stock, production and service run in spreadsheets and add-ons, every month-end takes longer. We move you to Odoo with ledgers, customers, products and open items reconciled, so finance and operations work from the same numbers.

In one sentence
What does replacing Sage with Odoo mean?
Replacing Sage means moving your accounts, and the processes around them, into Odoo: one ERP where sales, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, CRM and accounting share a single database. Sage data is exported, cleansed, mapped and loaded through Odoo's import framework, then reconciled before you switch.
- 01Why firms leave Sage
- Accounts in Sage, everything else in spreadsheets and add-ons, with re-keying between them.
- 02What moves across
- Chart of accounts, customers, suppliers, products, open items, opening balances and the history you choose.
- 03UK compliance
- Odoo's UK localisation supports Making Tax Digital VAT returns, so compliance carries straight over.
- 04Typical timeline
- Weeks for an accounts-led move; a few months, in phases, to replace Sage 200 and its add-ons.
Why it matters
Every Sage release has a shelf life, and every add-on adds cost.
Sage 200 ships new releases twice a year, each supported for a fixed period. Staying current means regular upgrade projects, and the add-ons and spreadsheets around Sage need re-testing every time.
Sage 200 releases (R1 and R2), each with its own end-of-support date
Sage 200 lifecycle table →support window for a Sage 200 release, for example 2025 R2 until November 2028
Sage 200 lifecycle table →median ERP project timeline across all vendors (170 respondents)
Panorama ERP Report, 2026 →after a release reaches end of support, extra users and modules can no longer be bought on it
Sage 200 lifecycle table →Sage 200 lifecycle figures come from a Sage business partner's published lifecycle table. Panorama figures cover ERP projects generally.
Sound familiar?
What is keeping you on Sage?
Most businesses stay on Sage longer than they should, for the same few reasons. Every one of them can be planned for.
None of these is unusual. Each one is a planning task, and we show you the order to tackle them in.
Our accountants know Sage
Finance worries about losing familiar reports, period-end routines and the audit trail.
→ Fix: key reports rebuilt in Odoo, and finance trained on period-end before go-live.
Years of history in Sage
Nobody has decided how much transaction history needs to stay live.
→ Fix: a history strategy, with older years archived and still searchable.
Add-ons hold it together
Stock, CRM, web shop and reporting add-ons each have their own data and licence.
→ Fix: add-ons replaced by Odoo apps on one database, licences retired as each goes live.
Stock lives in spreadsheets
Sage holds the value, but locations, batches and reorder levels sit outside it.
→ Fix: inventory, purchasing and replenishment in Odoo, with live valuation.
Month-end takes too long
Re-keying and manual reconciliations push the close out by days.
→ Fix: bank feeds, automatic matching and one ledger fed directly by operations.
We cannot stop trading to switch
A cut-over at the wrong time risks a split VAT quarter or missed customer orders.
→ Fix: a cut-over date planned around your VAT quarter and year end, rehearsed first.

How we migrate
Rehearse the move until cut-over is routine.
Within our SCALE method, migration runs as its own workstream with signed-off checkpoints. Data is profiled, cleansed and loaded into a test database several times before anything touches the live system.
Scope
Find out what you really have
We extract data from your current system and spreadsheets, then measure it: record counts, duplicates, blanks and inconsistencies. For upgrades, we review every custom and third-party module. You see the real picture before anyone commits to a date.
- Data quality report by object
- Inventory of every source system
- Custom and third-party module register
- Agreed list of what migrates
- History and archive decision
No surprises later about the state of your data or code.

Craft
Decide where every field belongs
Every source field is matched to its Odoo equivalent, and original references are kept as external IDs so migrated records can always be traced back. Your data owners agree the cleansing rules; we apply them consistently.

- External IDs back to the source system
- Duplicate merge rules agreed

Build
Configure Odoo around how you work
While the data is cleansed, we configure Odoo: chart of accounts, VAT and MTD, payment terms, warehouses, and the sales and purchase flows that replace your Sage add-ons and spreadsheets.
- UK chart of accounts and VAT set up
- Key Sage reports rebuilt in Odoo
- Add-ons replaced by Odoo apps
- Bank feeds and reconciliation models
- Integrations retested end to end
A working Odoo your finance team can test with real data.
Assemble
Load, check and repeat
We load the data into a test database, check it with your team, fix what is wrong and load again. Each trial is timed, so the real cut-over window is known long before go-live.
- At least two full trial loads
- Timed load runbook
- Exceptions log with owners
- User checks on real records
- Fixes applied at source or in rules
Go-live is a repeat of something that has already worked.

- Stock quantities and values matched
- Go or no-go checkpoint

FAQs
Sage to Odoo: common questions
Cannot see your question? Our UK consultants are happy to talk it through.
Can Odoo replace both Sage 50 and Sage 200?
Yes. Odoo Accounting covers the ledgers, VAT and reporting that Sage handles, and Odoo's other apps replace the stock, CRM, purchasing and manufacturing add-ons that often sit around Sage 200. Smaller firms usually start with Accounting and Inventory and add apps later.
Is there a one-click Sage to Odoo import?
No. Odoo does not publish an official Sage importer. We export from Sage, cleanse and map the data, and load it through Odoo's import framework with original references kept, then reconcile the trial balance and open items before you switch.
Does Odoo support Making Tax Digital?
Yes. Odoo's UK localisation supports MTD VAT returns submitted to HMRC. We set up your VAT codes and test a return before go-live.
How much Sage history should we bring across?
Usually opening balances, open invoices and bills, and one or two years of summary history. Older detail can stay in an archived copy of Sage or in exported reports that remain searchable.
When is the best time to switch?
Ideally at a year end or the start of a VAT quarter, so balances are clean and returns are not split across two systems. We plan the date around your calendar during discovery.
Can our external accountant work in Odoo?
Yes. Accountants can have their own user access with the reports they need. We train your finance team, and your accountant if you want us to.
How long does a Sage to Odoo move take?
An accounts-led move can take a few weeks. Replacing Sage 200 plus stock, CRM and other add-ons usually runs over a few months in phases. You get a timeline after a free scoping call.
Where can we read the migration steps in detail?
Our Sage to Odoo migration guide walks through data extraction, mapping, trial loads and cut-over step by step.
