Introduction

Odoo Discuss is your all-in-one internal communication tool. It keeps your team connected with chat, file sharing, notes, and even video calls. Whether you’re working in CRM, Sales, or Inventory, the Discuss app is always there with a persistent chat window or a dedicated dashboard.

 

With Odoo Discuss, you can:

  • Send direct messages to colleagues.
  • Share files and notes instantly.
  • Start video meetings without leaving Odoo.
  • Manage notifications and message history.

This guide will walk you through using Odoo Discuss effectively in your business.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Accessing the Discuss Dashboard
  • Open the Discuss app.
  • You’ll land on the dashboard where you can see:
    • Inbox: All unread messages.
    • Starred: Important messages you’ve marked.
    • History: Chatter updates from Odoo records you’re tagged in.
  1. Sending Direct Messages
  • On the sidebar, click the ➕ icon next to Direct Messages.
  • Search and select one or more colleagues.
  • Press Enter to start chatting.

 You can message one person or create a group chat.

  1. Managing Direct Messages

Hover over a message to see quick actions:

  •  Add a Reaction (choose emojis).
  •  Reply in a thread.
  • Mark as To-Do (moves to Starred).
  •  Expand for more options: Pin, Mark as Unread, Edit, Delete.
  1. Conversation Actions

At the top-right of a chat window, you’ll find:

  •  Notification Settings – customise alerts.
  •  Start a Call – launch a video meeting.
  •  Rename the group and add a description (for group chats only).
  1. Checking User Status

Easily see colleagues’ availability:

  •  Green = Online
  • Orange = Away
  •  White = Offline
  •  Airplane = Out of office
  1. Leaving a Conversation
  • Click the  Leave Channel icon beside the conversation name.
  • Note: History remains visible if you start chatting again with the same person or group.
  1. Starting Meetings in Odoo Discuss

Meetings = video calls in Discuss.

  • From the dashboard, click Start a Meeting.
  • Invite participants from the drop-down list.
  • Or, inside a chat, click  Start a Call.

During meetings, you can:

  • Mute / Unmute.
  • Turn camera on/off.
  • Share your screen.
  • Raise hand.
  • Go full screen.
  1. Managing Notification Preferences
  • Go to Settings app → Manage Users → Preferences tab.

 

  • Under Notifications:
    • Handle by Emails = Get notifications via email.
    • Handle in Odoo = Receive alerts directly in your Inbox.
  1. Using Discuss Across Odoo

No matter where you are in Odoo, you’ll see speech bubble icons in the top-right corner.

  • Click them to open chats, channels, or start a new message.
  • This ensures seamless communication across CRM, Sales, Inventory, and more.

Tips

  •  Use Starred messages for quick access to important notes.
  •  Hold video calls inside Odoo to avoid switching apps.
  •  Customise notification settings to reduce distractions.
  •  Use statuses to respect colleagues’ availability.
