Introduction

In Odoo Point of Sale (POS), you can easily manage receipts and invoices for customer transactions. Receipts act as proof of purchase, while invoices are formal accounting documents that also integrate with journals. Odoo provides options to configure, customize, and retrieve both receipts and invoices directly from the POS or backend. 

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Receipts Setup & Customization
  • Go to Point of Sale ‣ Configuration ‣ Point of Sale. 
  • Select the POS and scroll to the Bills & Receipts section. 
  • Enable Header & Footer, then enter custom text to display. 
  • Enable Automatic Receipt Printing to print receipts right after payment. 

Reprint a Receipt

  • In the POS interface, click Orders.
  • Change the filter from All active orders to Paid.
  • Select the order → Click Print Receipt.
  • (From backend) Go to Point of Sale ‣ Orders, search by receipt number, date, or customer, and print.

 

2. Invoices Configuration & Issuance

  • Go to POS Settings → Accounting section.
  • In Default Journals, define the journals for orders and invoices.

Invoice a customer

  • During checkout, select a customer.
  • After payment, click Invoice under the customer’s name.
  • Choose payment method → Click Validate.
  • Invoices are created, downloadable, and printable.

Retrieve Past Invoices

  • Go to Point of Sale ‣ Orders ‣ Orders.
  • Select an order → Open form → Click Invoice.
  • Invoiced orders show Invoiced status in the list.
  • Apply filter: Filters → Invoiced.

3. QR Codes for Invoices

  • Enable QR codes via Point of Sale ‣ Configuration ‣ Settings → Bills & Receipts → Use QR code on ticket.
  • Receipt prints with a QR code.
  • Customer scans the QR code → Fills billing info → Clicks Get my invoice.
  • Invoice is generated & order status changes from Paid/Posted → Invoiced in backend.

Tips

  • Always select a customer before invoicing; otherwise, invoice cannot be issued.
  • Use the search bar in Orders to quickly find receipts or invoices by reference, date, or customer.
  • Automating receipts reduces manual clicks at checkout.
  • QR code invoicing saves time and improves customer experience.
