How to create Warehouses

An Odoo Inventory warehouse is a physical location with an address where stock is held, such as a distribution centre, storage facility or shop. Every database starts with one pre-configured warehouse, and more can be added to represent other sites.

How to create a warehouse

  1. Go to Inventory app > Configuration > Warehouses and click New, or open an existing one.
  1. Fill in the required fields: Warehouse (full name), Short Name (up to five characters, shown on warehouse documents), Address, and Company.
  2. Add an Intrastat region if the company is in the EU.

With Multi-Step Routes enabled in Inventory app > Configuration > Settings, further options appear:

  • Incoming Shipments and Outgoing Shipments: one, two or three steps.
  • Manufacture: one, two or three steps, plus Manufacture to Resupply to allow production at this warehouse.
  • Buy to Resupply: allow purchased products to be delivered here.
  • Resupply From: with more than one warehouse, choose others to pull stock from.
  • Dropship Subcontractors and Resupply Subcontractors: available once Subcontracting is enabled in the Manufacturing app.

Once the warehouse is saved, use an inventory adjustment to add opening stock quantities to it.

Frequently asked questions

Does every Odoo database start with a warehouse already set up?

Yes, one warehouse is pre-configured using the company’s address; more can be added for additional sites.

When do options like Manufacture or Resupply From appear on a warehouse?

Only once Multi-Step Routes is enabled in Inventory app > Configuration > Settings.
