Odoo Sales discounts let you adjust the price on a quotation or order, either as a percentage on individual lines or as a fixed or global amount across the whole order.

How to enable discounts

  1. Go to Sales > Configuration > Settings.
  2. In the Pricing section, tick Discounts.
  3. Click Save.

How to apply a discount to a product line

  1. Open the desired quotation. In the Order Lines tab, a Disc.% column appears.
  2. Enter the discount percentage for each product line. The Total updates automatically.

The same applies to confirmed sales orders: go to Sales > Orders > Orders, select an order, and adjust the Disc.% field.

Using the Discount button

With discounts enabled, a Discount button appears at the bottom of sales orders, offering three options:

  • On All Order Lines: applies a uniform percentage discount to every existing line.
  • Global Discount: adds a new line representing a percentage of the order subtotal. For example, a 10% global discount on a $4,200 subtotal adds a line for -$420. This line does not update automatically if products are added or removed afterwards, so delete and reapply it if the order changes.
  • Fixed Amount Discount: adds a line for a fixed value, for example a $20 discount adds a line at -$20. It is best applied once all products have been added, since it also needs adjusting manually if the order changes later.

A positive discount percentage lowers the price and is visible to the customer. A negative value increases the price instead, shown as a change to the unit price rather than a visible discount.

What is the difference between a line discount and a global discount?

A line discount applies a percentage to individual product lines, while a global discount adds a single line to the order for a percentage of the whole subtotal.

Does a global discount update if I add more products afterwards?

No. It does not update automatically. Delete the existing discount line and reapply it after changing the order.

Can a discount increase the price instead of lowering it?

Yes, a negative discount percentage increases the price, though this is shown as a unit price change rather than a visible discount to the customer.
