Configure product

Odoo Inventory offers three ways to configure how a product’s quantity is handled: units of measure, packages and packaging. Choosing the right one keeps stock counts and barcode scanning accurate.

The three options

• Units of measure (UoM): a standard quantity for a product, such as metres or kilograms, with automatic conversion between units in the same category.
• Packages: a physical container that can hold different products together, with its own tracked location and contents.
• Packaging: a fixed quantity of the same product, such as a pack of six or twelve, used for easier handling and barcode scanning.

How to choose

Units of measure suit products that need converting between measurement systems, such as buying in tonnes but stocking in kilograms. Packages suit mixed containers, such as a delivery box holding several different items, where the container itself needs tracking. Packaging suits uniform quantities of one product, where scanning a single barcode should register the whole pack.
