Introduction

Odoo Subscriptions offers businesses the flexibility to determine how much control customers have over managing their subscriptions. One powerful feature is the ability to allow or restrict customers from closing their own subscriptions directly through the customer portal. This article explores how to configure and manage the closure of subscriptions both from an administrative and a customer point of view.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Configuration: Enabling Subscription Closure

To begin allowing subscription closures in Odoo, the administrator must enable this feature within the Recurring Plans settings.

Steps to enable closure:

Navigate to the Subscriptions app.

Go to Configuration ‣ Recurring Plans.

Either click New to create a new plan or select an existing one to modify.

Within the Recurring Plan form, locate the Self-Service section.

Enable the Closable option.

Enabling this option allows customers to initiate the closure of their subscriptions from the customer portal.

Closing a Subscription

Administrator View

Once a subscription product’s quotation has been confirmed, it becomes a sales order. At this point, its status is marked as In Progress.

To close the subscription:

Open the relevant subscription sales order.

Click the Close button at the top of the screen, next to the subscription’s status indicators.

A Close Reason pop-up window will appear.

Input the reason for closure or select a predefined option from the dropdown.

Click Submit.

After submission:

The subscription’s status is updated to Churned.

The specified Close Reason is logged on the order.

The reason is also recorded in the Chatter of the sales order for future reference.

Customer View

Administrators can preview the customer portal view by clicking the Preview button on the sales order screen.

From the customer’s perspective:

In the customer portal, customers will see a Close Subscription button on the left side of the sales order.

When clicked, a Close Subscription pop-up window appears.

Customers must select a reason from a pre-configured list (custom input is not allowed).

After selecting the reason, they click Submit.

Upon completion:

The subscription status updates to Closed in the customer portal.

The selected Close Reason is visible in the backend under the subscription sales order (admin view).

Note: Close reasons available to customers can be configured by navigating to Subscriptions ‣ Configuration ‣ Close Reasons.

Conclusion

Odoo Subscriptions’ closure functionality provides a seamless experience for both administrators and customers. Businesses can choose to grant customers autonomy in managing their own subscriptions, while maintaining clear records of closure reasons. With just a few configuration steps, companies can streamline subscription management and improve transparency across the board.
