How to Merge Contacts

Duplicate contacts can cause confusion and repeated communications. The Odoo Contacts app can merge duplicates without losing information, keeping the database organised.

How to merge contacts manually

Go to the Contacts app and switch to List view.
Tick the checkboxes for two or more duplicate contacts.
Click the Actions menu and choose Merge.

In the Merge pop-up, review each contact’s details. Click the delete icon next to any contact that should not be included.
Set the Destination Contact, the record to keep as the main one. This defaults to whichever contact was created first.
Click Merge Contacts to complete the merge.

Merging is irreversible, so only merge contacts that are certain duplicates.

Using the deduplication tool

After a manual merge, a confirmation pop-up offers Deduplicate the other Contacts, which searches for further duplicates automatically.

Select the fields to match on, such as Email, Name, Is Company, VAT or Parent Company. Selecting more than one field means only records matching on all of them are suggested.
Optionally exclude contacts that have a linked user account or journal items.
Choose Merge with Manual Check to review each match, or Merge Automatically to merge them straight away.
