Building blocks

Odoo Website building blocks let you design a page by dragging and dropping ready-made sections, no coding required. They cover everything from banners and text to images, videos and forms.

Types of building blocks

There are two types: Categories, which are large sections such as banners, features or testimonials, and Inner Content blocks, such as text, images or buttons, which can only be placed inside a Category block. Some blocks, such as Products, only appear once the related app is installed.

How to add a building block

1. Open the page and click Edit.
2. Drag the desired block from the Blocks panel into the page. Use the search bar in the block picker to find a specific block by name.
3. When you drop a Category block, a popup lets you choose between several design templates.
4. Drag Inner Content blocks, such as Social Media or Image, inside a Category block to add elements to it.

Customising a block

Select a block and use the Customize tab to change its text, colours, backgrounds and layout, and to set mobile-specific options. Blocks can be moved, resized or deleted directly on the page.

Creating an anchor link

1. Click Edit and select the block you want to link to.
2. Click the link icon at the top of the Customize tab.
3. To edit the default anchor name, click Edit in the green popup message that opens.
4. Replace the anchor name and click Save & copy. You can then link to the anchor from anywhere on your site to jump visitors straight to that block.

Using the Form block

Drag the Contact & Forms category and select the Form block to collect visitor information. By default, submitting the form sends an email; depending on installed apps, other actions are available, such as Create a Customer, Create a Ticket, Create an Opportunity or Subscribe to Newsletter. Add or edit fields from the Customize tab using + Field, and set each field’s type, label and whether it is required.
