Odoo Project task creation lets you add work to a project by hand or have Odoo generate tasks automatically from incoming emails or website forms. It suits teams who need a quick way to log work as well as ones who want tasks created without manual data entry.

How to create a task manually

  1. Open the Project app and select the project.
  2. Click the plus button in the upper left corner to add a task to the first stage, or click the plus next to a specific Kanban stage name.
  1. Enter the Task Title and add one or more Assignees, then click Add.

Open the task to fill in further fields such as Tags, Customer, Allocated Time and Deadline. Priority, allocated hours, assignees and status can also be edited directly from the Kanban card.

Keyboard shortcuts in the task title

  • 30h: allocates 30 hours to the task.
  • #tags: adds tags.
  • @user: assigns the task to a user.
  • !: marks the task as high priority.

Creating tasks from an email alias

  1. In the Project app, open the project’s Settings.
  2. Fill in Create tasks by sending an email to with the alias name and, if needed, restrict which senders can trigger a task under Accept Emails From.

When an email arrives, the sender becomes the Customer, the subject becomes the Task Title, and the body appears in the task’s Description and chatter.

Creating tasks from a website form

If the Website app is installed, add a form to a page, set its Action to Create a Task and choose the target Project. Submitted forms then create a task automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Can I set the allocated time or assignee directly from the title?

Yes. Keyboard shortcuts let you type, for example, 5h to allocate time, #tags to add tags, @user to assign the task, and ! to mark it high priority.

Can tasks be created automatically from emails?

Yes. Configure a project’s email alias in its settings and any email sent to that address becomes a task, with the sender as the customer and the subject as the task title.
