Lead times for resupply subcontracting in Odoo Manufacturing need to account for two things: how long the subcontractor takes to manufacture and deliver the finished product, and how long it takes to get components to them in the first place.

How to set the delivery lead time

  1. Go to Inventory app > Products > Products and open the subcontracted product.
  2. On the Purchase tab, add the subcontractor as a vendor if not already listed.
  3. Set Delivery Lead Time to the number of days needed to manufacture and deliver the product.

How to time the component shipment

  1. On the resupply order, check the Deadline field, the date the subcontractor needs the components by.
  2. Adjust the Scheduled Date so components are shipped early enough to arrive before that deadline.
  3. Ship the components and click Validate once sent.

Example

A subcontractor needs 3 days to manufacture and 2 days to deliver a product, a 5-day delivery lead time. If the finished product is expected on 30 May, the subcontractor needs the components by 25 May. If shipping the components takes 2 days, they should be scheduled to leave by 23 May.
