Introduction

Odoo 18 introduces an intuitive Product Catalog feature that streamlines product selection across various business processes. Integrated directly into key modules like Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Manufacturing, and Repairs, the product catalog simplifies the way users add products and components to orders, quotations, and bills of materials.

 

With its clean, POS-style interface, the product catalog offers a visual and user-friendly experience, allowing users to browse, search, and filter products quickly making order creation faster and more efficient.

What is the Product Catalog?

 

The Product Catalog is a visual tool available in forms such as:

  • Sales Quotations (SOs)
  • Requests for Quotation (RfQs)
  • Purchase Orders (POs)
  • Manufacturing Orders (MOs)
  • Bills of Materials (BoMs)

It opens in a new page when triggered from the order line section of a form, allowing users to select items by browsing product cards that display essential product information at a glance.

 

Where to Find It

 

To access the product catalog:

  1. Open or create a quotation, order, or BoM in Odoo (e.g., go to Sales app → New Quotation).
  2. Navigate to the first tab in the form (e.g., Order Lines, Products, Components, or Parts).
  3. On the first blank line, click the Catalog link — this will open the product catalog in a new page.

 

What’s in the Product Catalog?

 

Each product card in the catalog includes:

  • Product Image
  • Product Name
  • Price or Cost (depending on whether the item is sold, purchased, or used in production)
  • Reference Code (e.g., DESK0005)
  • On-hand Quantity
  • Variant Attributes (e.g., Color: White)

This layout helps users get a quick overview of all available products and their details.

 

Filtering and Searching Products

 

The catalog provides several filtering tools to help users find exactly what they need:

 

Search Bar & Filter Options:

  • Click the down arrow next to the search bar to open advanced filters:
    • Services – shows only service-type products
    • Products – shows only tangible products
    • In the Order – available when editing an order, shows products already added

 

Sidebar Filters:

  • Product Category – filter by assigned product categories
  • Attributes – filter by variant attributes like size, color, etc.

These options are especially helpful when managing large product databases.

 

Adding Products to an Order or BoM

 

To add a product:

  • Click the product card or the Add button (bottom-right corner of the card)
  • Each click adds 1 unit to the selected order/form
  • Quantity is shown in the bottom-left of the product card

Adjust Quantity:

  • Click the plus (+) or minus (-) buttons to increase or decrease the quantity
  • Or enter a specific number directly in the quantity field between the plus and minus buttons

To remove a product:

  • Click the Remove button
  • Or reduce the quantity to 0 using the minus button

 

Once you’re done selecting products, click Back to [Form Name] (e.g., Back to Quotation, Back to BoM) at the top of the screen to return to your order.
