Introduction

In any warehouse, some products may become damaged, defective, or obsolete beyond repair. When such products cannot be returned to the vendor or used in operations, they need to be scrapped.

Odoo’s Inventory module provides a straightforward way to scrap inventory, ensuring that stock levels remain accurate by removing unusable items from available stock and transferring them to a virtual scrap location.

What is a Scrap in Odoo?

 

Scrapping in Odoo refers to the process of marking products as unusable and moving them to a virtual location called Virtual Locations/Scrap. This location exists only in the database and helps track scrapped items without including them in physical inventory counts.

 

Note: Virtual locations in Odoo are not physical spaces in the warehouse. They exist purely for inventory tracking purposes.

 

Scrapping Inventory from Stock

 

To create a new Scrap Order (SP) for a product currently in stock:

 

Steps:

  1. Go to Inventory app → Operations → Scrap
  2. Click New to open the scrap form
  3. Select the Product you want to scrap
  4. Adjust the Quantity to be scrapped (default is 1.00)
  5. The Source Location is auto-filled based on the product’s current storage
  6. The Scrap Location defaults to Virtual Locations/Scrap, but can be changed
  7. (Optional) Fill in the Source Document if the scrap relates to a specific transaction
  8. Tick Replenish Quantities if replenishment is needed based on configured rules
  9. Click Validate to confirm the scrap

Once validated, a Product Moves smart button will appear on the form, allowing you to view the movement details of the scrapped product.

 

Viewing All Scrapped Items

 

To see the total scrapped quantities over time:

  1. Go to Inventory app → Configuration → Locations
  2. Remove the Internal filter from the search bar to reveal virtual locations
  3. Select the Virtual Locations/Scrap
  4. Click the Current Stock smart button

 

You’ll now see a list of all products that have been scrapped and their total quantities.

 

Scrapping During an Existing Operation

 

You can also scrap products directly from ongoing operations such as:

  • Receipts
  • Delivery Orders
  • Internal Transfers

 

This is useful when a product is found to be damaged during receiving or transfer and should be removed before being entered into stock.

 

Steps:

 

  1. Navigate to the Inventory app
  2. From the Inventory Overview, click # To Process on an operation (e.g., Receipts)
  3. Select the operation you want to work with
  4. On the operation form, click the ⚙️ (cog) icon and select Scrap
  5. In the Scrap Products pop-up:
    • Select the Product
    • Enter the Quantity
    • If the product is tracked, enter the Lot/Serial Number
    • Confirm or change the Source Location and Scrap Location
    • (Optional) Tick Replenish Quantities
  6. Click Scrap Products

 

After scrapping, a Scraps smart button will appear at the top of the operation form. Click it to view all scrap orders associated with that operation.
