Introduction

 

In Odoo 18, Locations represent specific spaces within a warehouse, such as shelves, aisles, zones, rooms, or equipment. Locations are crucial for organizing internal operations and defining how inventory moves inside and outside of the warehouse.

How to Enable Storage Locations

 

Before creating individual locations, enable the Storage Locations feature:

 

  1. Go to the Inventory app.
  2. Navigate to Configuration → Settings.
  3. In the Warehouses section, enable Storage Locations.
  4. Click Save.

Steps to Create a New Location

 

After enabling the feature:

  1. Go to Inventory → Configuration → Locations.
  2. Click New to create a location.

Location Form Fields

 

Fill out the form with the following information:

  • Location Name
    A recognizable name for the location.

  • Parent Location
    The larger area that this location belongs to. This builds a location hierarchy.

Storage Category

(Requires Storage Categories feature enabled in Settings)

 

Company

Assign the location to a specific company. Leave it blank if shared across multiple companies.

 

Is a Scrap Location?

Check this to designate the location for damaged/scrapped items.

 

Is a Return Location?

Check this to allow product returns to this location.

 

 

Barcode

Assign a barcode used with the Barcode app to scan and identify the location.

 

 

Replenish Location

Check this to allow this location to receive products through purchase, manufacturing, or other routes.

 

Cyclic Counting

 

Use cyclic counting to schedule regular inventory checks at the location.

  • Inventory Frequency (Days):
    Set how often (in days) to perform inventory counts.
    Example: 30 means one count every 30 days.
  • Last Effective Inventory:
    The date the last inventory count occurred.
  • Next Expected Inventory:
    Automatically calculated based on the frequency and last count date.

 

Logistics Settings

 

In the Logistics section:

  • Removal Strategy
    Choose how products are picked from this location:
    • FIFO (First In First Out)
    • LIFO (Last In First Out)
    • FEFO (First Expiry First Out)
    • Closest Location

This setting helps optimize picking routes and stock rotation.

 

Viewing Stock in a Location

 

To view what products are stored in a location:

  1. Go to Inventory → Configuration → Locations.
  2. Select the location.
  3. Click the Current Stock smart button.
