Introduction

Understanding your manufacturing costs and production efficiency is essential for keeping your business competitive.
In Odoo’s Manufacturing app, the Production Analysis report gives you detailed statistics on your manufactured products including production costs, time spent, and overall performance.

Whether you’re looking to cut costs, improve productivity, or compare performance over time, this report puts the data at your fingertips.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Access the Production Analysis Report
  • Go to ManufacturingReportingProduction Analysis.
  • You’ll see key statistics on products manufactured, displayed in different formats (bar chart, pie chart, pivot table).

Note: This guide covers measures and examples specific to Production Analysis. For general reporting features, see Odoo Reporting Essentials.

  1. Choose Your Measures

Measures are the specific statistics you can view in the report.
Click Measures and pick one of the following:

  • Average Employee Cost/Unit – Average staff cost per unit.
  • By-Products Total Cost – Value of by-products created.
  • Component Cost/Unit – Average cost of components per unit.
  • Cost/Unit – Full average cost per unit (components, labour, operations, subcontracting).
  • Duration of Operations/Unit – Average total operation time per unit.
  • Quantity Demanded – Total units ordered.
  • Quantity Produced – Total units manufactured.
  • Total Component Cost – Overall spend on components.
  • Total Cost – Overall spend on manufacturing.
  • Total Duration of Operations – Total time spent on operations.
  • Total Employee Cost – Overall staff costs.
  • Total Operation Cost – Overall operational costs.
  • Total Operation Cost/Unit – Average operational cost per unit.
  • Total Subcontracting Cost – Overall spend on subcontracting.
  • Total Subcontracting Cost/Unit – Average subcontracting cost per unit.
  • Yield Percentage (%) – Output vs demand in percentage.
  • Count – Number of Manufacturing Orders (MOs).

Tip: In graph view, you can select only one measure at a time. In pivot view, you can compare multiple measures.

  1. Compare Products

One powerful use case is comparing costs between products.

Example:
A toy manufacturer wants to decide whether to keep making two similar products.

  • Search both products in the Search… bar.
  • Under Group By, choose Product.
  • Select Total Operation Cost/Unit as your measure.
  • View results in bar chart mode.

This visual comparison makes it easy to see which product costs more to produce — and which one to cut to save money.

  1. Compare Time Periods

You can also see how production costs change over time.

Example:
A furniture company wants to compare Q1 and Q2 costs.

  • Choose the pie chart view.
  • Select Total Cost as your measure.
  • In the Search… bar, filter for Q2 2024.
  • In Comparison, choose End Date: Previous Period.

The chart now shows Q2 costs in the outer ring and Q1 costs in the inner circle, helping spot trends and seasonal changes.

Tips

  • Use pivot view for deep analysis across multiple measures.
  • Filter by product category to analyse whole ranges at once.
  • Combine with OEE reports to understand not just costs, but work centre efficiency.
  • Regularly compare current and past periods to track improvements or spot issues early.
