Introduction

In Odoo 18, the Marketing Automation app empowers users to run marketing campaigns effectively, allowing for testing before launching the final version. This ensures that all errors are identified and fixed, preventing any mistakes from reaching your target audience. Here’s a guide on how to test and run campaigns within Odoo’s Marketing Automation app.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Testing a Marketing Campaign

Testing a campaign ensures that your setup is functioning properly before it is officially launched. Here’s how to test a campaign in Odoo 18:

Step 1: Open the Campaign

Navigate to the Marketing Automation app and open the campaign you want to test.

On the campaign’s detail page, ensure that you have already configured activities in the workflow. If not, refer to the Campaign Workflow Activities documentation to set them up.

Important:

Testing marketing automation campaigns should be done in the production version of your database. Duplicate (or trial) databases have limited email sending capabilities, which may hinder the test process.

Step 2: Launch a Test

To begin the testing process, click the Launch a Test button located at the top of the campaign form, to the right of the Start button.

Launch a Test pop-up window that will appear on the screen.

Step 3: Choose or Create a Test Contact

In the pop-up window, you’ll see the option to Pick or Create a Contact. Here, you can either select an existing contact from the drop-down menu or create a new one by typing the contact’s name and selecting Create and Edit.

Creating a New Contact: When you type the name of a new contact, a new blank form will appear. Complete the necessary details, such as Email and Mobile numbers, to ensure the test can be executed correctly. Once done, click Save & Close to return to the Launch a Test window.

Step 4: Start the Test

After selecting or creating a contact, click Launch. This will open the Campaign Test Page, where you’ll see details like the record being tested and the time the test started.

Step 5: Run the Test

On the test page, you will see the workflow activities. Click the Run button beside the first activity in the workflow to begin the test.

Odoo will begin running the activities, showing real-time results and analytics for each activity. If there are any child activities under a parent activity, they will appear once the parent activity has been executed.

If you need to stop the test before it finishes, click the Stop button in the upper-left corner.

Step 6: Review Test Results

After completing all workflow activities, the test will be marked as Completed, and you can review all data and analytics tied to the campaign.

Running a Campaign

Once your campaign is fully tested, it’s time to run it for real. Here’s how to initiate a campaign in Odoo 18.

Step 1: Open the Campaign

Open the Marketing Automation app and select the campaign you want to run.

Step 2: Start the Campaign

On the campaign detail form, verify that all the necessary activities are ready in the Workflow section.

Click the Start button located at the upper-left corner to officially launch the campaign.

Once the campaign starts, its status will change to Running, which is displayed in the upper-right corner of the campaign form.

Step 3: Monitor Campaign Progress

As the campaign progresses, various stats and data related to each activity will appear in each activity block.

You’ll also see a series of smart buttons at the top of the campaign form: Templates, Clicks, Tests, and Participants. These buttons will display real-time data as the campaign moves forward.

Step 4: Modify a Running Campaign

If some participants have already gone through the original version of the campaign, and you’ve made modifications to the workflow, clicking Start again will trigger a pop-up warning.

The warning will advise you to click Update to apply changes to the campaign. Be cautious: participants who have already completed the original campaign might be reintroduced into the newly modified campaign, and new traces may be created for them.

Stopping a Campaign

At times, you may need to halt a campaign for various reasons. Here’s how to stop a running campaign:

Step 1: Open the Campaign

Go to the Marketing Automation app and open the campaign you wish to stop.

Step 2: Stop the Campaign

On the campaign detail form, click the Stop button located at the upper-left corner.

Once clicked, the campaign’s status will change to Stopped in the upper-right corner.

Conclusion

Testing and running campaigns in Odoo 18 Marketing Automation provides flexibility, ensuring that all workflows are accurate and error-free before reaching your audience. By following these steps to test, run, and manage campaigns, you can enhance your marketing efforts and achieve more targeted results with confidence.
