Introduction

Odoo’s Project Dashboard gives you a clear, real-time view of your project’s health. From tracking tasks and timesheets to monitoring budgets and milestones, it’s your all-in-one control center for project success. Whether you’re managing internal tasks or delivering client projects, the dashboard ensures you’re always in control and on schedule.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the Project app in Odoo.
  2. Select the project you want to review.
  3. Click the slider icon (⚙️) at the top right and select “Dashboard” to add it to your top bar.

Tip: You can also open the dashboard by hovering over a project card, clicking the three vertical dots (), and choosing Dashboard.

 

Navigating the Project Dashboard

  • Left Panel: Displays all project updates.
  • Right Panel: Shows tasks, milestones, documents, budgets, profitability, and more.

Note: The data you see depends on which Odoo apps (e.g., Timesheets, Planning, Accounting) are installed.

 

Key Features and Smart Buttons

 

Odoo uses smart buttons to summarize key data and provide shortcuts. Here’s what you’ll find:

  • Tasks: Shows the ratio of completed tasks to total tasks (e.g., 15/20) and a completion percentage.
  • Timesheets: Displays logged hours or days—validated or not.
  • Planned Hours: Pulled from the Planning app—includes past and unpublished shifts.
  • Documents: Total number of documents in the project’s workspace.
  • Burndown Chart: Visual task progress over time.
  • Timesheets & Planning: Compare actual vs. planned time.

Tip: Click any smart button to jump straight to that feature log time, review documents, plan resources, etc.

 

Managing Milestones

 

If milestones are enabled:

  • Click Add Milestone to create one.
  • Use the checkbox to mark milestones as complete.
  • Click the trash icon  to delete a milestone.
  • Red milestones = overdue.
  • Green milestones = tasks marked “Done” or “Cancelled.”

Reviewing Profitability

 

For billable projects, Odoo displays a Profitability Report that includes:

  • Costs and revenue
  • Impact of timesheets, sales orders, purchases, etc.

Budget Tracking

 

If you’ve enabled budgets in the Accounting app, you’ll see:

  • The current budget status
  • Budget-to-actual comparisons

Click Add Budget to set a new one.

 

Creating Project Updates

Use updates to track progress and share status reports during weekly or monthly reviews.

To create a new update:

  1. Go to your Project Dashboard.
  2. Click New.
  3. Fill in:
    • Status: On Track, At Risk, Off Track, On Hold, or Done
    • Progress: Enter completion percentage
    • Date & Author: Auto-filled
    • Description: Add comments and key observations. This field may auto-populate based on project data.

Tip: Project status color dots appear on the Kanban view quickly see which projects need attention.

  • Install all relevant Odoo apps (Timesheets, Planning, Accounting) to unlock the full dashboard experience.
  • Use milestones to break down major phases and track critical deadlines.
  • Schedule regular project updates to keep stakeholders informed and aligned.
  • Watch the profitability section to avoid budget overruns in billable projects.
