Introduction

In business, it is common practice for companies and individuals to use different addresses for shipping (delivery) and billing (invoicing). Fortunately, Odoo 18 provides a flexible way to manage multiple addresses per contact, allowing businesses to streamline operations and reduce manual entry errors. This guide will walk you through configuring and using different delivery and invoice addresses in Odoo 18 using the Sales and Accounting apps.

1. Activating Customer Addresses in Odoo

Before using multiple addresses, you need to activate the related setting in the Accounting app.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to Accounting
  2. Go to Configuration > Settings.
  3. Scroll to the Customer Invoices
  4. Enable the checkbox labeled Customer Addresses.
  5. Click Save to apply the changes.

This feature enables support for separate billing and shipping addresses per contact.

2. Configuring Multiple Addresses on Contact Forms

You can add multiple addresses to any customer or vendor using their contact form in the Sales or Contacts apps.

Steps:

  1. Open the Sales app and go to Orders > Customers.
  2. Clear any filters to view all customers.
  3. Click on a customer to open their contact form.
  4. Click Edit, then go to the Contacts & Addresses
  5. Click Add to open the Create Contact pop-up form.

In the Create Contact form, select the type of address from the Address Type dropdown:

  • Contact: A general contact person.
  • Invoice Address: For billing and invoicing.
  • Delivery Address: For shipping and deliveries.
  • Other Address: Any additional location.
  • Private Address: Confidential addresses.
  1. Fill in the required address details.
  2. Click Save & Close to add the address, or Save & New to add multiple addresses in sequence.

3. Using Address Information in Sales Quotations

When creating a quotation in the Sales app, Odoo automatically populates the Invoice Address and Delivery Address fields based on the addresses defined in the customer’s contact form.

These fields are visible when a customer is selected in a quotation. If needed, you can manually update the addresses:

  1. Open a quotation and click Edit.
  2. Use the internal link next to each address field to make changes.
  3. Choose from existing addresses or create a new one directly.

This feature ensures the right invoice goes to the billing department and the product is delivered to the correct location.

Conclusion

Odoo 18 makes it easy to manage multiple addresses for each contact, allowing for seamless handling of deliveries and invoicing. Whether you’re dealing with large corporations with multiple branches or customers with separate billing departments, Odoo’s flexibility ensures your operations stay accurate and efficient.

By properly configuring customer addresses and using them in sales documents, businesses can reduce errors, save time, and maintain a professional level of service.
