How to Map your Custom Domain to Zoho Billing?

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 104 views

Introduction

Custom Domain Mapping empowers your business to present a unified brand image across every customer-facing touchpoint — from invoices and payment pages to the customer portal. With this feature, your Zoho Billing URL transforms from the standard Zoho domain to one that aligns with your brand.

Why Use a Custom Domain?

Imagine Patricia, the owner of Zylker, whose website is hosted at https://zylker.com. Instead of using Zoho’s default link (https://billing.zoho.com), Patricia sets up https://billing.zylker.com. Now:

  • She accesses Zoho Billing from her own branded domain.
  • Her customers see Zylker’s name on Customer Portal, Hosted Payment Pages, and Invoice links — not Zoho’s.
  • Her brand remains front and center at every interaction.

Note: This feature is available only in select Zoho Billing plans. Check the pricing page to confirm availability in your plan.

 How Custom Domain Mapping Works

 What You’ll Need:

  • A domain you own (e.g., zylker.com)
  • Access to your DNS settings via your domain provider (e.g., GoDaddy)
  • A plan that supports Custom Domain Mapping

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

  • Go to Settings > Organization > Custom Domain
  • Click Map Custom Domain
  • Enter your subdomain (e.g., billing.zylker.com) and click Next
  • In your domain provider’s DNS settings, add a CNAME record as instructed by Zoho Billing:
    • Host Name: billing (your subdomain prefix)
    • CNAME Value: Provided by Zoho (e.g., custom.zoho.com)
  • Return to Zoho Billing and click Submit & Verify

Note: DNS changes might take time to reflect due to TTL (Time to Live). If verification fails, wait and try again later, or contact your DNS provider for help.

 SSL Certificate Installation

Once your domain is verified, Zoho will install a multi-domain SSL certificate for your custom domain. This process usually takes 3–5 business days.

You’ll get an email once the certificate is ready. After that, all your branded links will be secure and fully functional.

 Managing Your Custom Domain

Disabling Your Custom Domain

Temporarily want to switch back to the default domain? Here’s how:

  • Go to Settings > Organization > Custom Domain
  • Click Disable
  • Confirm your choice by checking Yes, I want to disable my custom domain
  • Click Disable

Your domain will now redirect to https://billing.zoho.com.

You can always re-enable the domain mapping later with just a click.

Deleting or Changing Your Custom Domain

Need to switch domains or remove mapping permanently? Here’s what to do:

Before You Delete:

  • Your custom domain must be disabled
  • The CNAME record must be deleted from your domain provider

Steps to Delete:

  • Go to Settings > Organization > Custom Domain
  • Click Delete
  • Confirm: Check Yes, I want to delete my custom domain permanently
  • Click Delete

Important Notes:

  • Any previous invoice or portal links using the custom domain will no longer work.
  • No automatic redirection will occur. Customers will need to use the default Zoho URLs.

 Rebranding or Expanding?

You can always repeat the setup with a new domain if your brand grows or your needs change. The process remains the same — start fresh with your updated domain settings.

Final Step:

Custom Domain Mapping in Zoho Billing isn’t just about URLs it’s about building trust, increasing brand visibility, and offering your customers a professional and consistent experience.
