Custom Domain mapping

Zoho Books custom domain mapping lets you use your own website domain for your customer portal instead of the default Zoho Books web address. It gives customers a more professional, branded experience and makes the portal easier to find and remember.

Before you start

You’ll need access to your domain provider’s DNS management to add a CNAME record. For example, if your custom domain is books.zylker.com, the host name is “books” and the domain is “zylker.com”.

How to map a custom domain

  1. Log in to your domain provider’s website and go to DNS Management (or similar).
  2. Add a CNAME record using the host name and CNAME details provided by Zoho Books.
  1. Log in to your Zoho Books account and go to Settings > Custom Domain under the Organisation section.
  2. Click Map Custom Domain.
  3. Review the instructions in the pop up and click Ok, Got it.
  4. Enter your custom domain name, then click Next.
  5. After creating the CNAME record with your domain provider, click Submit and Verify.

DNS updates can take up to 48 hours, depending on your domain provider’s TTL (Time to Live) settings.

SSL certificate installation

Zoho Books automatically installs an SSL certificate once your domain is verified, so your portal uses HTTPS to keep customer data secure. This usually takes 3 to 5 business days, and you’ll receive an email once it’s complete.

Disabling your custom domain

  1. Go to Settings > Custom Domain.
  2. Click Disable.
  3. Tick the confirmation box and click Disable.

Customers will then access the portal at your default Zoho Books URL. To re-enable the domain later, click Re-enable.

Deleting a custom domain permanently

The domain must be disabled first. Then remove the CNAME record from your domain provider’s DNS settings, and in Zoho Books:

  1. Go to Settings > Custom Domain.
  2. Click Delete next to your domain.
  3. Tick the confirmation box and click Delete.

Your portal will then default back to the standard Zoho Books URL.

Tips

  • Double check your CNAME settings with your domain provider.
  • If DNS verification fails, wait a few hours before trying again.
  • Contact your domain registrar’s support team if you’re unsure how to add DNS records.
  • A branded subdomain, such as portal.yourcompany.com, helps build trust and recognition with customers.
