Applications work a little differently after upgrading from Zoho Creator 5 to Creator 6. This guide summarises what changes at the application level, so you know what to expect before you upgrade.

What changes for applications

  • Sharing model: applications move from the older component level sharing used in Creator 5 to a permissions based system built around user permission sets and roles.
  • Account level permissions: older permissions such as Create Application, Account Setup and Subscription are no longer used in the same way.
  • Features affected: groups, domain sharing, yearly backup schedules and the sandbox environment work differently, or are no longer available, after the upgrade.
  • Application ownership: applications created by other users in your account move under the super admin’s organisation in Creator 6.

Before you upgrade

Only a super admin can start the upgrade, and Zoho recommends resolving outstanding issues first, such as removing inactive users, cleaning up old sharing configurations, and removing deprecated payment settings. The upgrade is irreversible, so review these changes carefully before proceeding.
