Estimated reading: 2 minutes 343 views

An extension in Zoho People is an add-on that enhances or customises the application using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and server-side logic through Zoho Sigma, Zoho’s developer console.

Building an extension

  1. Access the developer console: log in to Zoho Sigma with your Zoho credentials, or create a workspace if you’re new, then confirm registration by email.
  2. Plan your extension: decide what services it will connect with, what forms or data it needs, and whether it requires automation or third-party integrations.
  3. Create a new extension: in Zoho Sigma, go to the Extensions tab, click New Extension, enter a name and description, select Zoho People as the service, and click Create. The extension is saved in Draft status.
  1. Set up your extension: click the edit icon on your draft, then add a service, forms, automation (webhooks, tasks, email alerts, field updates or Deluge functions), integrations using Connections, and branding under Publish > Edit.
  1. Publish the extension: click Save, then go to Publish and click Publish again to confirm. A public or private install link is generated; use Share Privately to send it to specific email addresses. Once installed, admins can view it under Settings > Marketplace > Installed.
  2. Submit to Zoho Marketplace: open the Extensions tab in Zoho Sigma, click Extension Details, then Submit to Marketplace next to the version you want to list. Provide your company name, app category, privacy policy and terms of use URLs, supported editions, icon, thumbnail and screenshots, a summary with a tagline, description and key features, plus availability and pricing. Click Submit to send it for Zoho Marketplace validation.

Tips

  • Test your extension in a sandbox before publishing.
  • Use versioning to update your extension safely.
  • Use Connections for integration with third-party APIs.
  • Share privately with selected admins if your extension is organisation-specific.
