Understand Action Components in Marketing Automatio

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 248 views

Action components in Zoho Marketing Automation are the steps that engage a contact directly, based on the behaviour they show as they move through a journey. They are what actually happens to (or for) a contact at each stage.

What action components do

Where a trigger brings a contact into a journey and a process component decides which path they take, an action component carries out a task, such as sending an email, updating a field on the contact record, or adding them to another list.

Adding an action

  1. Drag an action component onto the journey canvas at the point where you want it to run.
  2. Configure what it should do, for example which email to send or which field to update.
  3. Connect it to the next step in the journey, whether that is another action, a process component, or the end of the flow.

Examples of actions

  • Sending a welcome or follow-up email.
  • Adding or removing the contact from a list.
  • Updating a contact field, such as marking them as engaged.
  • Notifying your sales or support team about the contact.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of actions can I add to a journey?

Typical actions include sending an email, updating a contact field, adding or removing a contact from a list, or notifying your team.

Can I add more than one action in a row?

Yes, you can chain several action components together to build out a full sequence.

Do actions run immediately?

Actions run as soon as a contact reaches that point in the journey, unless you have added a wait or process component before it.
