How to Create a Journey in Marketing Automation

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 258 views

A journey in Zoho Marketing Automation is an automated workflow that moves contacts through a series of steps, such as emails, waits and actions, based on their behaviour. This article covers how to create one.

Before you start

Decide what you want the journey to achieve (for example, welcoming new subscribers or nurturing a lead) and which contacts should enter it.

How to create a journey

  1. Go to Journeys and select View Journeys.
  2. Click Create in the top right corner.
  3. Give the journey a name and description.
  4. Choose a template, or select Start from Scratch to build your own flow.
  5. Drag components from the left-hand panel onto the canvas to build the journey: a trigger to start it, then process and action components to define what happens next.
  6. Connect each component so the flow runs in the order you intend.
  7. Click Review and Launch to check the summary, including the goals and re-entry criteria set, then activate the journey.

After launch

Once live, contacts who meet the trigger criteria enter automatically. Monitor the journey’s reports to see how contacts are progressing and where they drop off.

Frequently asked questions

Can I start a journey from a template?

Yes, you can choose a pre-designed template or start from scratch and build your own.

What happens before a journey goes live?

Zoho shows a review screen summarising the flow, including the re-entry criteria and goals set, before you launch it.

Can I edit a journey after it is live?

You can pause it to make changes, though it is best to review the flow carefully before launch to avoid disrupting contacts already in progress.
