What is the use of Connections in Zoho People?

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 338 views

Connections in Zoho People securely link your account to Zoho services or third-party applications, so custom functions and Deluge scripts can call external REST APIs without repeated authentication. Connections are available on all paid Zoho People plans and support Basic, OAuth 1.0 and OAuth 2.0 authentication.

Quick setup with Default Services

  1. Go to Settings > Developer Space > Connections > My Connections and click Create Connection.
  2. Under Default Services, choose the service to integrate, for example Slack.
  3. Enter a Connection Name and Link Name, choose the required scopes, then click Create and Connect, and Connect again.

Custom services

If a service isn’t listed under Default Services, configure it as a Custom Service. For OAuth 2.0 apps, first register a client app in the Zoho Developer Console: add a Client ID, set the Client Name, Client Domain and Redirect URI, choose Web Based as the client type, and create it to get a Client ID and Client Secret.

To create the custom connection itself:

  1. Go to Settings > Developer Space > Connections > My Connections > Create Connection and switch to the Custom Service tab.
  2. Enter the Service Name and Link Name, and choose an authentication type such as OAuth 2.0.
  3. Provide the required Request Token, Access Token and (if applicable) Refresh Token URLs, plus the Client ID and Client Secret.
  4. Define the scope name, display name, scopes and delimiter, then click Create Service.
  5. From the Service Summary, click Create Connection, then Create and Connect.

Once a connection is created, you can call it from custom functions to verify data retrieval or trigger actions in the connected service.
