What is the sandbox feature in Zoho People?

The Sandbox feature in Zoho People gives administrators a secure, isolated environment to test changes to forms, settings, workflows and data without affecting live organisational data.

Who can use the sandbox

Sandbox access is limited to Super Administrators, who can create and manage a sandbox, and Sandbox Users, who are added manually by Super Admins for testing.

How to create a sandbox

  1. Go to Operations > Data Administration > Sandbox and click Create Sandbox.
  1. Fill in the basic details and choose a sandbox type: a Configuration Sandbox replicates only forms, settings and configurations with no live data, while a Configuration + Data Sandbox also includes a copy of your live data. Note that even an existing Administrator is added as a Team Member by default in the sandbox.
  1. Click Create and wait a few minutes for the sandbox to be initialised, then click Access Sandbox to open the test environment in a new tab.

In the sandbox, you can modify forms, update workflows, and test new automations or configurations without affecting live data. A sandbox marker is shown to help you identify the test environment.

Deploying changes to production

  1. Return to the base tab (your live Zoho People account).
  2. Go to Operations > Data Administration > Sandbox > Change Tracker.
  3. Review the list of sandbox changes, select the ones you want using the checkboxes, and click Deploy to Production Environment. Confirm when prompted.

For example, a mandatory “Reason for Leave” field added in the sandbox will now appear live.
