Set Goals and Re-entry Criteria in Marketing Automation

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 249 views

Goals and re-entry criteria in Zoho Marketing Automation let you define what success looks like for a journey and control whether the same contact can go through it more than once.

What a goal is

A goal is the outcome you want a contact to reach while in a journey, such as making a purchase, clicking a specific link, or filling in a follow-up form. Setting a goal lets you measure how well the journey is working.

What re-entry criteria control

Re-entry criteria decide whether a contact who has already been through a journey can enter it again if they meet the trigger conditions a second time. This matters for journeys such as welcome sequences, where you usually want a contact to go through only once.

How to set these up

  1. While building the journey, open the goal settings and choose the action or event that counts as success.
  2. Set the re-entry option to allow or prevent contacts entering the journey more than once.
  3. Check both settings on the review screen before you click Review and Launch, since they are summarised there.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I set a goal for a journey?

Goals are set as part of the journey configuration and are summarised on the review screen before you launch it.

What happens once a contact hits the goal?

The contact is generally marked as having achieved the goal and can be moved out of the journey or routed differently, depending on how the journey is built.

Why would I turn off re-entry?

To stop the same contact triggering the journey more than once, for example so someone does not receive a welcome sequence twice.
